Transferwares

There is something magnatic about transferwares.
I don't know exactly why I'm drawn to these dishes.

I don't have tons of collections, nor I own any rare valuable pieces.

But a few finds from flea markets from Germany or the ones that I came across at the thrift stores and antique stores make up my little collection of transferwares.

Transferware is a style of ceramics including pottery, dinnerware, and other delicate items. It uses transfer printing, a decorative technique which was developed in England in the mid-18th century, particularly around the Staffordshire region.

The process starts with an engraved copper plate similar to those used for making paper engravings. The plate is used to print the pattern on tissue paper, then the tissue paper transfers the wet ink to the ceramic surface. The ceramic is then fired in a low temperature kiln to fix the pattern. This can be done over or under the glaze, but the underprinting method is more durable. The process produces fine lines similar to the engraved prints in old books. Before transfer printing ceramics were hand painted, a laborious and costly process. ~ from Wikipedia

Trip to NYC last October 2

>> Tuesday, February 8, 2011

It was much colder night when we met at Bangkok Thai Restaurant in Queens nearby my mom's place.
All I had to do was cross Queens Blvd and walk down the street.
It's a small, but nice and clean restaurant tucked in so inconspicously on the street
where many local restaurants are lined.
If you don't pay attention, you will pass by.
I've been to this resturant many times, and yet I have to intentionally look for the restaurant.

My Pad Thai dish. It was a bit too sweet for my taste.
However, presenation was much more stylish than other Pad Thai I had at some place else.

Their jade color rice bowl with a lid is unique and goes very well with clean white dishes.

Curry with Noodles.

Martha's Country Bakery on Austin street where we had dessert after dinner.

The bakery was somewhat crowed, so I coun't take pictures, but their cup cakes looked awesome!

Trip to NYC last October 1

>> Monday, February 7, 2011

An idyllic dining experience under an umbrella in the outdoor patio area  of Ginino At Wagner Park overlooking the Hudson on a beautiful one October day.

I was the out-of-town guest who was treated to a nice early dinner here.
Though a former New Yorker, I did not frequent this part of the town.
So, the whole outdoor dinning experinece with an awesome view and good friends was memorable.
Even the weather was perfect for outdoor dinning experience.

The Hudson River with Statue of Liberty overlooking.

 This is westside of Manhattan.

 Cruiseship is passing by.

Sun is slowly setting and people are enjoying what little of  sun and daylight left of the day.

In a big city like New York, being out there at  a park where you can stroll, ride bike, and take a leisurely walk even with the littlest person in your family is a blisss.

Again, I don't have pictures of the food.
Yes, I do have a tendency to forget taking pictures while I'm eating.

Micasa Mexican Restaurant in Breckenridge, CO

>> Sunday, February 6, 2011

We went for a drive to Breckenridge last October.
Unlike the year before, the weather here was still warm enough that
Aspen trees were still bursting with radiant yellow leaves.
I felt so lucky to have caught the sight of such awesome fall beauty that
I missed a year before due to the arrival of early winter.

We finally got to the town driving through incredibly winding roads, and we were very hungry.
After we met people who were raving about the food at Micasa, we didn't mind waiting at the restaurant. The restaurant was full.

Their interior decoration with bright Southwestern colors and styles caught my eyes.

Very spacious seating arrangements.
We were seated right next to these girls.

The view of the deck with the tables.
Though it was somewhat cool, some didn't mind outdoor eating.

I just wanted to taste salsa.
But, boy it was so good that I couldn't stop eating though I didn't want to fill myself up with chips before my main meal.
But, unfortunately, I don't have the pictures of our real food.
Obviously I forgot about taking pictures. We were too occupied with eating.

We liked what we ordered.
