Moving to CA - Day 1

>> Friday, May 20, 2011

This is how we began the day on May 2nd.
We woke up to a sunny, cold, crisp  and beautiful Monday morning.
It's the day we are leaving to go to our new place out in CA.
Once we headed to north to Denver, we will be on I-70 W for a long time.
Our destination for Day 1 is Richfield, UT.

Oops! Are we on the same road? Yes, yes.
As we go through the mountain pass, roads are wet and icy and temperature drops quite a bit.  As a matter of fact, we are on the most spectacular secenic freeway.
But, unless, weather gets much warmer, the mountain pass west of Denver will be like this all the time.

It seems winter is never over here in CO.
In fact, we are going through the area where all the popular ski resorts are.
It's only natural that we would see something like this.

It even began to snow.
This part of I-70 is very curvy and has a downward gradient.
So, this snowy weather with icy roads adds some stress for driving.
Jonathan who's driving ahead of us was really stressed out while we drove through this leg of our journey. He refers as 2 hours of 'hellish drive'

Finally we are done with the stressful drivng situation.
The road is dry! And it's beautiful out here.

Since our car window got so dirty while the mountain pass,
taking pictures became somewhat difficult.
But a few shots here and there came out ok.

Finally we are crossng the state line to Utah from Colorado.

At the rest stop, the guys are climbing the bare hill. I must say, it's pretty sharp incline.
I needed helping hands from one of them.

Don't they look like they needed a break from driving?

Our Day 1 ends here.
Both of our cars show that we went through some rough areas.
Holiday Inn Express in the background is today's final destination.
Unlike many of them I've been, this HE was very nice, spacious and clean, most of all nice beds.

Time to eat something!
Our dinner will be Subway sandwiches.
The breads in the oven look and smell great!
While traveling, we like to eat light meals.
