My First Quilt Show

>> Monday, February 6, 2012

Wow! I went to my first quilt show in LA last month.
I'm a a novice who is still dabbling to understand and feel the world of quilting.

Quilting is an art.
People's skills and creativity with fabrics and stitches create its own world of art.
So, even in this world of quilting, I know I have to find my own niche where I can feel comfortable before I can even dream about being creative or challenge myself with sophisticated designs.
So in that sense, going to a quilt show was an eye opening experience for me.
Just like any other artistic activities, I knew seeing other people's work will help me develop my eyes for patterns and colors.

At first, I felt like a tiny fish swimming in the ocean trying to find my way.
I was also mesmerized at how unassuming colors of fabrics mix and match together
and bring out such surprising color pallet in harmony, and how
the variety of quilting patterns adds texture to otherwise a plain flat surface of fabrics.
It seems every piece of fabric has its place in the hands of an artist.

I took pictures of quilts in display. Some booth does not allow photo taking.
So, the pictures are selective.
At least you get a feel for a quilt show.
